football season

What a crazy football season it's been as my 2 favorite teams to follow are heading in opposite directions. Penn State is 9-1 and one game away from winning its first Big Ten Championship since 1994 and now is #5 in the BCS (They are only 1 second away from being undefeated after their last second loss to Michigan) The Philadelphia Eagles are just the opposite. They are 4-4 and in last place in the NFC East (could easily be 3-5 if it wasn't for miracle win against San Diego) They have a good chance of missing the playoffs for the first time since 1999. Their star receiver Terrell Owens is off the team for good. (Which I think is a good decision by the Eagles) Who would have thought 2 months ago that Penn State football would have a much better record than the Eagles going into the 2nd week of November? I think the Eagles may be underachiving and can still make the playoffs and PSU could be upset at Michigan St, but this football season just shows that you can never predict what will happen at the beginning of a season. As Chris Berman says on ESPN primetime 'That's why they play the game'.

pardon my sports ignorance, but could you explain what the BCS is? i assume it is some division or conference, but i always get confused b/c it seems these teams are in more than one grouping. i know...i am really bad when it comes to the technical stuff of sports. i just can't keep it all straight!

anyway, my Dad said that there's a good chance PSU will play Notre Dame in the BCS championship...he loves the Fightin' Irish but says he'd root for PSU.
