Fidel Castro

With news that Fidel Castro gave up power in Cuba the other week due to illness and turned 80 this week made me think just how long he’s been in power. In 1959 he took power, that’s 47 years as a head of a state. Think about just how long it’s been. Most people work roughly 40-45 years their entire life (assuming you start around 22 after college and retire around 65), let alone head an entire country for that long. Think of all the President we’ve had since he’s been in power: Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush Jr. In 1959 the personal computer and internet were decades away, color TV was the hot new technology, The Superbowl didn't exist and the south was still segragated.
Whatever you think of Castro you have to admit that the man has longetivity like few others.
